Nexus CIFS announces further leadership strengthening

By CreditMan Thursday, December 4, 2014

Specialty MGA the Nexus Group announce significant strengthening within their leading credit insurer Nexus CIFS with the promotion of Bob Lilley to Executive Chairman and the appointment of Richard Marriage as Managing Director of Nexus CIFS Limited.

It is anticipated that Richard Marriage will take up his new role in March 2015 when he will assume full operational responsibility for the CIFS business.

Colin Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of the Nexus Group, said that since CIFS became part of the Nexus Group at the start of 2013 the business has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of Bob Lilley:

“After much thought and consideration, Bob has decided to step aside from his role as Managing Director of Nexus CIFS and assume the role of Executive Chairman where he will continue to move the business forward by providing stability, leadership and direction. Bob has proven to be an admirable founder, architect and leader of CIFS and he will remain at the forefront of its growth and development with his ideas and thoughts for the future.”

“Clearly this is a major change for the company, but a very positive and stable one, whereby the combination of Richard as Managing Director and Bob as Executive Chairman, together with the expertise and leadership of Risk Director Neil Payton and Client Services Director Sue Morley, we can really drive the business forward into its next phase of growth and innovation," Thompson added.

Bob Lilley, Managing Director of Nexus CIFS commented:

“I am very pleased that Richard, whom we know well, is coming back into the fold to support Neil and Sue - who have both shown great leadership and success with their respective teams - and this combination of talent will make the company even more of a force to be reckoned with.”

“My imminent new role will give me more time and resource to work in conjunction with Richard and the CIFS team to look at and grow the business with them - for example, the Single Situation Credit and Political Risks account underwritten by James Steele Perkins that really fits with the growth and expansion plans of the business - and I am greatly looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead,” Lilley added.

Richard Marriage previously worked for CIFS when it was founded in 2000, where he was underwriting manager for the business with a main focus on new business, risk and system administration, until 2010 when he left to join Euler Hermes World Agency (EHWA). At EHWA he was responsible for teams based in the UK, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia covering the Multinational/Global business division, servicing clients based anywhere in the world.

Colin Thompson commented further:

“With Richard we are lucky enough to appoint someone who has had really excellent exposure to the global Credit Insurance market - both from a broker and client as well as a regulatory perspective – that has given him valuable experience in managing remote teams, highly complex program structures and clients from all over the world.”

Nexus CIFS, which trades as CIFS, is the trade credit subsidiary of Nexus Underwriting Management Ltd, one of the largest independent specialty Managing General Agents in the London market with a projected 2014 Gross Written Premium of more than US$ 100 million.

In 2013 Nexus CIFS won the Credit Insurer of the Year at the Institute of Credit Management Awards, and have just been short listed as finalist for this award for the second year in a row.

This announcement follows the recent appointment of Tony Smith, a Credit Risk analyst and underwriter specialising in Export Risk, to the new position of Export Underwriting Manager at Nexus CIFS. or
